Why there's no face on this site

Fair question. Here's the honest answer. I went through a divorce with a business, kids, and no idea what I was doing. I learned the expensive way what personal goodwill means, what a forensic accountant looks for, what a custody schedule does to an owner's calendar, and which mistakes can't be bought back. Somewhere in year two, I realized the manual I needed had never been written — because the people qualified to write it are either lawyers who can't say the useful parts, or men who'd rather not relive it in public.

I write under a pen name — Sam Carver — for one reason: my kids. They didn't choose any of this, and they shouldn't be able to Google it. If you're here, you probably understand that instinct better than most.

So here's the deal this site makes with you, since you can't judge it by a face. Every legal claim is sourced — statutes, cases, primary documents — so you can check me. Nothing here is individual advice: I'll teach you the map; your lawyer navigates your terrain. I only recommend what I'd use. And real names are never required — not on the email list, not anywhere. Use whatever name you want. Everyone here does.

― S.C.

I'm not an attorney, accountant, or therapist, and this site doesn't replace any of them — it makes you dangerous in their offices, in the good way.
